Conformation

Comformation, coloquially known as "dog shows", are events organized to evaluate and judge dogs. Dogs are not competing against each other, but against their official breed standard that describes the ideal individual of each breed.

The goal is to identify which individual best fits this standard, with dogs first competing within their breed with other members of their own sex, then the winners of each sex compete with all other champion dogs of the breed. The "Best of Breed" winner goes on to represent its breed in the group ring, and each group winner competes for "Best in Show".
